Two common myths about Skype are that you need to have a webcam and that you need to pay to use it.
IF you have a webcam the person you are calling can see you, and IF they have a webcam you can see them. But it is up to you whether you use video or not because with Skype you can use it in 3 different ways;
1. call by voice only,
2. call with video,
3. simply type a message in an instant chat situation.
The other beauty of Skype is that you can use it absolutely free when talking to another Skype user. You only need to pay if you are calling a mobile phone or landline phone. And the rates are very cheap, but there can be quality issues when calling a real phone. The quality between two Skype users is excellent and video makes it all the more fun if you have it.
So IF you decide to get a Skype account to talk live with your GpN friends it would be wise to have your Skype username the same as your GpN username and that way you never need to give out your real name to someone you don't know very well.
Oh, and just one safety tip. People have to request your permission via Skype before they can contact you. You DO NOT have to give permission to just anyone, you decide to accept or decline a request. It is still the internet and personal safety doesn't stop there.
